The Tour Divide

What is the Tour Divide?

Sometimes described as 'The Grand Tour of MTB'.

The TD is a single stage, 2745 mile self supported race from Banff, Alberta in Canada to Antelope Wells, New Mexico in the USA.

Nice! So what's the terrain like?

Having not been that way before, I'll give credit to the Tour Divide's website....

"....this battle royale braves mountain passes and windswept valleys of the Continental Divide from hinterlands of the Canadian Rockies to the badlands of the Mexican Plateau."

What this doesn't mention is 200,000 feet of climb.... The equivalent of scaling Mount Everest nearly seven times.

Anything else?

Although the route can be tackled solo throughout the summer months, there appears to be a tradition of a 'Grand Depart'. Racers gather mid June in Banff to tackle the journey together.

Yes, it's a race: But there's no entry fee and no prize money.
